Kex Portland
Kex, which means cookie in Icelandic, brings a unique feel to Portland’s east side. The hotel, which opened on November 7th at the East Burnside bridgehead in the historic Vivian Apartments building, is Kex’s second location, and it’s only presence outside of Reykjavik. Its beautiful interior design makes you feel like you’re staying in a bygone era while offering modern accommodations.
Ohm worked with the architect and construction team on the Audio Video system design while the project was still in the planning phases. This allowed us to create a robust system that addresses the many uses of the hotel’s spaces:
The Gym and Tonic is a meeting space, a great place to host a party, and so much more. We installed QSC surface mounted speakers and subwoofers in between the open ceiling joists to provide high quality audio reproduction and coverage. Streaming audio players, wireless microphones, and local inputs can be selected and controlled with BSS’s intuitive Contrio wall plate controls. A large projector and screen provide a visual solution to show big games and presentations from laptops alike.
Vivian, Kex’s highly anticipated restaurant and bar, has already begun to host a lot of exciting events. It also has an A/V system that can handle the party, including a DJ input and 10’ video screen that is cleverly tucked away in the library millwork.
The rooftop bar, Dóttir, set to open in Spring 2020, is also amazing, boasting stunning views of Portland’s growing skyline. It has a dedicated audio zone with recessed ceiling speakers built into the ornate outdoor ceiling. I can’t wait to have a cocktail and take in the view!
